Nine Minimum Controls

The NINE MINIMUM CONTROLS are technology-based actions or measures designed to reduce Combined Sewer Overflows and their effects on receiving water quality.

NMC 1 - Proper Operation and Regular Maintenance Programs for the Sewer System and CSO Outfalls  

NMC 2 - Maximum Use of Collection System for Storage  

NMC 3 - Review and Modification of Pretreatment Requirements to Ensure that CSO Impacts are Minimized  

NMC 4 - Maximization of Flow to the Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW) for Treatment  

NMC 5 - Elimination of CSO's During Dry Weather  

NMC 6 - Control of Solid and Floatable Materials in CSO's  

NMC 7 - Pollution Prevention Program for the Reduction of Contaminants in CSO's  

NMC 8 - Public Notification  

NMC 9 - Monitoring to Characterize CSO Impacts and the Efficacy of CSO Controls
