Primary Clarifiers

The plant has two
rectangular primary clarifiers, each 119 feet long and 28 feet wide. These
tanks are used for removal of sediment and large organic material in the raw
wastewater. The tanks are designed to allow particles to settle to the
bottom of the tank, where the accumulated settled sludge is collected and
removed by collector mechanisms. The flow then exits the primary
clarifiers, via effluent troughs, and is transported by pipe to the aeration
tanks for the next step in the treatment process. The sludge that is
collected by the mechanisms is pumped to a gravity thickening tank, where
additional settling and sludge collection is performed.
